NSF

Millions of people take the safety of their food, water and consumer products for granted on a daily basis. Why? Because of three letters: NSF. NSF certification is your key to making sure that the products you use meet strict standards for public health protection.

Choosing a product certified by NSF lets you know the company complies with strict standards and procedures imposed by NSF. From extensive product testing and material analyses to unannounced plant inspections, every aspect of a product’s development is thoroughly evaluated before it can earn this certification.

Most importantly, NSF certification is not a one-time event, but involves regular on-site inspections of manufacturing facilities and regular re-testing of products to ensure that they continue to meet the same high standards required to maintain certification over time. If for any reason a product fails to meet one or more certification criteria, NSF will take enforcement actions to protect you, including product recall, public notification or de-certification.

Products that earn NSF certification are said to be “NSF certified” or “NSF listed” and display the applicable NSF certification mark to show that they have been tested by one of today’s most respected independent product testing organizations.

The NSF Nonfood Compounds Registration Program is a continuation of the USDA product approval and listing program, which is based on meeting regulatory requirements including FDA 21 CFR for appropriate use, ingredient and labeling review.

CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency)

Gard Chemicals Adhesive Cleaners and Release Agents have been submitted and accepted by the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) for use within the Food Manufacturing and associated industries.

It is valued by consumers, manufacturers, retailers and regulatory agencies worldwide.

The CFIA Non-Food Chemical and Container Integrity Program sets requirements for, and evaluates submissions for CFIA acceptance for, the safe use of non-food chemical products (i.e. cleaners), food packaging materials and construction materials in federally registered food establishments.

The process consists of evaluating each chemical ingredient in a product individually and as a whole to ensure their use will not present a food safety concern. If a product is accepted for use in a food establishment, a letter of acceptance is issued to the applicant and the accepted product will be listed on the CFIA website.

Mitigating risks to food safety is the CFIA’s highest priority, and the health and safety of Canadians is the driving force behind the design and development of CFIA programs. The CFIA, in collaboration and partnership with industry, consumers, and federal, provincial and municipal organizations, continues to work towards protecting Canadians from preventable health risks related to food and zoonotic diseases.

The acceptance to NSF and CFIA also provides:

  • Knowledge that an impartial review against established criteria or guidelines has been conducted
  • Evidence that product labelling and claims have been objectively reviewed by a trusted third party
  • Evidence of our company-wide commitment to quality, compliance and safety
  • Gard Chemicals has submitted full chemical formulations of all our accepted products including % of components to enable the assessment to be carried out
